ACA Working For All? – New America Medial – July 30, 2015

Based on a recent “health fair” held in Anaheim, Calif. and the deluge of attendees, it is clear that many Americans still cannot access healthcare irrespective of the ACA.

One individual that attended a Ms. Jackie Mason was quoted in New American Media “Trending” Magazine as saying “she had been waiting for nearly four months to get an appointment with a primary care doctor. She enrolled in her insurance plan about a year ago after being uninsured for two years. More than once she considered going to the local hospital emergency room, she said, especially when she had episodes of dizziness she believed were triggered by her hypertension and diabetes. But she knew from experience that one visit to the ER could set her back by several hundred dollars.”

Over 2000 people attended the Free Health Fair sponsored by the City of Anaheim and the Anekant Community Center. Some who came to the clinic voiced similar circumstances as Ms. Mason had, with long waiting time and high co-payments. New Media reports that “the line outside the cavernous Anaheim Convention Center clearly indicated that despite the ACA, whose aim was to make health care accessible to all legal American residents, hundreds of thousands of people have fallen through the cracks.

The 3 ton elephant in the room is “does Obamacare work for those who needed it the most?” It doesn’t appear so for those least able to afford healthcare insurance.
