Inexpensive Healthcare for Everyone? Ask The Folks.

Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, reported today that familiarity with buying insurance on the exchanges has progressed however affordability is the question most consumers have. Is it the “Affordable Care Act?”

According to US News & World Report “low- and middle-income consumers who use the marketplaces often are able to qualify for tax subsidies to offset the cost of monthly premiums and help them afford care. But while the Department of Health and Human Services has touted low premiums averaging $100 a month for the majority of Americans who use exchanges, that message only tells part of the story, leaving out details about co-pays, deductibles and provider costs that may be out of reach.”

A survey of 3,887 exchange customers found that insurance coverage was provided for individuals and families that had no coverage before, however only 24% felt that the coverage was affordable. In order to get premiums affordable the out of pocket deductibles and co-pays had to be significantly increased.

So the question remains “is the affordable care act affordable.” When US News & World Report asked the folks, the answers indicated that as of now, it is not!
